Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT) After Cochlear Implant

AVT is a structured therapy approach that teaches children to use their CI for spoken language. Therapy after CI is as important as the surgery itself.

AVT focuses on listening as the primary route to language. Sessions involve the child, parent and therapist, and progress is measured through structured milestones. Children typically need consistent therapy for 12–24 months, with home practice between sessions. Adults receiving CI may also need aural rehabilitation, especially if hearing has been impaired for many years.
