Child Cochlear Implant

Auditory verbal therapy schedule after CI

Most paediatric CI programmes recommend weekly AVT sessions for the first 12–24 months after switch-on, with daily home practice.

A typical AVT plan starts with sound awareness exercises and progresses through detection, discrimination, identification, comprehension and conversation. Sessions involve the child, the parent and the therapist — the parent learns specific techniques to use at home. Intensity matters far more than duration of any single session: short, frequent, playful interactions in real-life contexts produce the best language outcomes.
