Sound processors — behind-the-ear vs off-the-ear

Behind-the-ear (BTE) processors sit on the ear like a hearing aid. Off-the-ear (OTE) processors are a single unit on the head, magnetically held in place.

BTE processors (Cochlear Nucleus 8, AB Naída CI M, MED-EL SONNET 3) offer the most familiar look and broadest accessory range. OTE processors (MED-EL RONDO 3, Cochlear Kanso family) appeal to users who prefer no element behind the ear — convenient for glasses, masks and short hair. Both styles deliver comparable hearing outcomes; choice is largely about lifestyle, comfort and accessory needs.
