Adult Cochlear Implant

CI and social life — meetings, restaurants, family events

Social hearing in noise is the hardest scenario for CI users. Modern processors with directional microphones and 'focus' modes have made this dramatically easier.

Practical strategies: • Sit with the better ear (or both implants) facing the group. • Choose quieter restaurants and times where possible. • Use 'noise' or 'focus' programs on your processor. • Use FM systems (Roger) or table mics for important conversations. • Tell the people closest to you what helps: face them, clear speech, don't shout.
