Will a cochlear implant work for me if I have tinnitus?
Many CI users report substantial reduction in tinnitus, especially in the implanted ear, after switch-on and consistent device use.
Severe-to-profound hearing loss is often accompanied by tinnitus. Multiple studies show that cochlear implantation reduces tinnitus perception in 50–80% of users, with complete tinnitus suppression while wearing the processor in a meaningful minority.
The mechanism is thought to be re-stimulation of deafferented auditory pathways. While tinnitus reduction is a welcome benefit, it should not be the sole reason for CI — candidacy is decided primarily on hearing loss severity and aided benefit.
