Long-term maintenance cost of a cochlear implant
Annual maintenance — batteries, microphone covers, occasional cables and accessories — typically costs ₹8,000–₹20,000 per processor depending on model and usage.
Processor upgrades — every 6–10 years — are the largest long-term cost. Pricing varies by manufacturer and may be partly covered by upgrade programmes or top-up health plans. Some schemes/CSR programmes specifically cover upgrades for eligible long-term users.
The internal implant is designed to last a lifetime and usually does not need replacement.
