When implanted early and supported with consistent therapy, paediatric CI users achieve high rates of mainstream schooling and age-appropriate language.
Modern paediatric CI cohorts report:
• 85–95% open-set speech understanding in the implanted ear (older children).
• 60–80% mainstream school enrolment without significant accommodations.
• Catch-up to age-appropriate spoken language in the majority of early-implanted children.
Failure to thrive with a CI usually traces back to late identification, inconsistent device use, poor mapping access, or family/therapy gaps — all addressable problems.
