Electrode arrays — types and selection
Each manufacturer offers multiple electrode array designs to suit different cochlear anatomies and preserve residual hearing where possible.
Examples:
• MED-EL: FLEX series (FLEX34, FLEXSOFT, FLEX28, etc.), FORM series for malformed cochleae, CLASSIC series.
• Cochlear: Slim Straight, Slim Modiolar (CI632), Contour Advance, Slim Hybrid.
• Advanced Bionics: HiFocus SlimJ, HiFocus Mid-Scala, HiFocus 1J.
The surgeon selects the array based on cochlear size and anatomy (CT/MRI), residual hearing and the implant model.
