How loud is too loud for a CI user?
CI sound levels are programmed (mapped) by the audiologist within safe limits. Users do not need to worry about unsafe over-amplification.
Unlike a hearing aid that simply amplifies sound, the CI delivers preset electrical stimulation within safe physiological limits. Maps are designed so that comfortably loud is safely below uncomfortable.
If any sound feels too loud, distorted, or causes discomfort, the audiologist can adjust the program. Many processors also have user-controllable volume and sensitivity for environment-specific fine-tuning.
