Mapping & Activation
How many mapping sessions are needed in the first year?
Most users need 4–6 mapping sessions in the first 3 months and a total of 6–8 in the first year. Frequency reduces thereafter to annual reviews.
Initial mapping is conservative — comfortable but stimulating. As the user's tolerance grows over days and weeks, the audiologist gradually raises stimulation levels to maximise sound information. Children often need more frequent mapping due to rapid changes in tolerance.
Progress is monitored through audiometric tests, speech understanding assessments and user feedback. Mapping continues lifelong as needs change, but at much lower frequency.
