MRI compatibility of cochlear implants

Modern CI implants are MR Conditional at 1.5T (most devices) and 3.0T (newer devices) under specified conditions. Always inform your radiologist and follow the IFU.

Examples: MED-EL SYNCHRONY 2 is MR Conditional up to 3.0T without magnet removal. Cochlear's and AB's modern implants offer MRI compatibility under defined conditions. Older implants may require magnet removal before scan. Carry your implant card to every MRI. The radiologist must follow the manufacturer's IFU including any positioning requirements.
