Myth: CI does not work in older people

Reality — older adults often have outstanding CI outcomes. Many report it is the single most impactful intervention of their lives.

Studies consistently show that older adults gain similar speech-understanding improvements to younger adults. The relative quality-of-life gain may be even larger because older adults often have years of withdrawal from social life due to hearing loss. If you have an older parent or relative with severe hearing loss who is medically fit, do not let age alone hold them back from a CI evaluation.
