Myth: cochlear implant gives normal hearing

Reality — CI restores access to sound and enables most users to understand speech, but it is not identical to natural hearing. Realistic expectations are essential.

Cochlear implants are a remarkable technology but they do not perfectly reproduce the cochlea's natural function. Most adult users achieve high open-set speech understanding within 6–12 months; music perception, very noisy environments and subtle voice nuances may remain harder than natural hearing. Understanding this from day one prevents disappointment and supports steady, motivated rehabilitation.
