Myth: it is too late for adults to get a CI

Reality — many adults who have lived with severe hearing loss for years still benefit substantially from CI. The brain's auditory learning capacity persists into late adulthood.

Outcomes are best when CI follows reasonable previous use of hearing aids. Adults with prolonged untreated hearing loss may take longer to adapt but the majority still gain meaningful hearing benefit. If you have severe hearing loss and hearing aids no longer help enough, a CI evaluation is worth having.
