Adult Cochlear Implant
Phone calls with a cochlear implant
Modern CI processors stream phone calls directly via Bluetooth, eliminating the old need to hold the phone awkwardly against the processor.
All three major manufacturers' current processors support direct streaming from compatible Apple and Android phones. This delivers the caller's voice directly into the implant, bypassing room noise.
For a new CI user, phone calls can take 3–6 months to become comfortable. Starting with familiar voices, using video calls (so you can read lips while listening), and gradually moving to audio-only calls is a proven strategy.
