Speech therapy after cochlear implant
Speech therapy after CI focuses on articulation, phonology, voice and intelligibility — usually after the foundational listening/language phase.
Children implanted young often pick up clear articulation through listening alone. Children with later implantation, or those with additional needs, may benefit from focused speech therapy from age 4–5 onwards. Goals include accurate consonant and vowel production, prosody, voice quality and connected-speech intelligibility.
Adults rarely need speech therapy unless they had pre-lingual hearing loss; most adult rehab focuses on listening, not speaking.
