Rehabilitation

Why is therapy after CI essential?

Surgery gives access to sound. Therapy teaches the brain to make meaning from that sound. Without therapy, children with CI do not develop spoken language fully.

A CI without therapy is like a piano without lessons — the instrument is there but the skill is not. For children, structured therapy in the first 12–24 months is the difference between mainstream school readiness and significant language delay. For adults, structured aural rehab is the difference between fast plateau and prolonged adaptation.
